The trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving leader, has been portrayed by many on the right as a politically motivated campaign designed to unseat a popular and effective statesman through legal rather than electoral means. From the outset, Netanyahu and his supporters have argued that the indictments—filed in 2019 for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust—are the culmination of years of pressure from left-leaning elites in the media, judiciary, and law enforcement, who were unable to defeat him at the ballot box.
Critics on the right highlight the unprecedented decision to indict a sitting prime minister over charges that had never before been prosecuted in Israeli history. They argue that the trial reflects selective enforcement and a broader effort to undermine Israel’s national camp and weaken its democratic institutions through unelected legal authorities.
And then, on Thursday morning, President Donald Trump posted this on Truth Social:
BREAKING NEWS…I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its Greatest Moments in History, and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister!
Bibi and I just went through HELL together, fighting a very tough and brilliant longtime enemy of Israel, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his LOVE for the incredible Holy Land. Anybody else would have suffered losses, embarrassment, and chaos! Bibi Netanyahu was a WARRIOR, like perhaps no other Warrior in the History of Israel, and the result was something that nobody thought was possible, a complete elimination of potentially one of the biggest and most powerful Nuclear Weapons anywhere in the World, and it was going to happen, SOON! We were fighting, literally, for the Survival of Israel, and there is nobody in Israel’s History that fought harder or more competently than Bibi Netanyahu.
Despite all of this, I just learned that Bibi has been summoned to Court on Monday for the continuation of this long-running (He has been going through this “Horror Show” since May of 2020 – Unheard of! This is the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has ever been on trial.), politically motivated case, “concerning cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges” in order to do him great harm.
Such a WITCH HUNT, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State. Perhaps there is no one that I know who could have worked in better harmony with the President of the United States, ME, than Bibi Netanyahu. It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF “JUSTICE” CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!
Here in Israel, the drawn-out proceedings, widely covered in left-leaning media, are seen as part of a coordinated attempt to erode public trust in conservative leadership. For much of Israel, the trial is not merely about Netanyahu—it is a test of whether Israel’s democracy will be governed by voters or by prosecutors.
HERE’S HOW TRUMP CAN HELP
On June 11, 2020, President Donald Trump issued an executive order sanctioning officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC), marking an unprecedented move against the Hague-based tribunal. The order authorized asset freezes and travel bans against ICC personnel involved in investigating alleged war crimes committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan, as well as those examining Israeli actions in the West Bank and Gaza.
From the Trump administration’s perspective, the ICC had overstepped its authority and posed a direct threat to national sovereignty. Officials, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Mark Esper, accused the court of politicization and bias, particularly in its handling of cases involving democratic allies like the United States and Israel. Pompeo called the ICC a “kangaroo court,” and the administration emphasized that neither the U.S. nor Israel are members of the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC.
The executive order followed years of growing tension between Washington and the court. In 2018, the U.S. revoked visas for ICC staff, and in 2019, the Trump administration denied a visa to ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda. The 2020 sanctions marked a further escalation, signaling the administration’s willingness to use economic tools to defend U.S. and allied military personnel from what it viewed as politically motivated prosecutions.
On February 6, 2025 – President Trump signed Executive Order 14203, targeting the ICC, its prosecutor Karim Khan, and associates. It authorized asset freezes, travel restrictions, and secondary sanctions for those aiding ICC investigations into the U.S. or allies like Israel. The move followed the ICC’s November 2024 issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli officials—including Netanyahu and Gallant—which the U.S. deemed “illegitimate and baseless.”
And now, it’s time for the Trump administration to sanction AG Gali Baharav-Miara, State Prosecutor Amit Aisman, judges Rivka Friedman-Feldman, Moshe Bar-Am, and Oded Shaham, and the 15 members of the Israeli Supreme Court. Let them try to get around without their foreign bank accounts and credit cards.
