Last Friday, Iran’s state media reported that following the assassination of Lieutenant General Gholamali Rashid, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei promoted General Ali Shadmani to the rank of Major General and appointed him as the new Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya, the Iranian military’s unified combat command headquarters.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military announced that it had killed Ali Shadmani, identifying him as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and the country’s most senior military commander.
Are you an ambitious high-ranking officer in the Islamic Revolution’s armed forces? Well, have we got a job for you!
The IDF revealed that, acting on precise intelligence provided by the Intelligence Branch and seizing an opportunity that emerged overnight, Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck a manned command center in the heart of Tehran, killing Ali Shadmani.
Before the assassination of his predecessor, Shadmani served as deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Emergency Command and headed the Operations Department of the Armed Forces General Staff.
According to Tasnim, Ayatollah Khamenei called on Major General Shadmani to work on strategic and operational planning and guidance to counter the threats and accurately detect the combat preparedness of the Iranian military forces in synergy with the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
He did. And it wasn’t much to write home about.
Major General Baqeri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces; Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters; and at least 14 Iranian nuclear scientists were killed in Israeli strikes.
In response, Ayatollah Khamenei warned the Zionist regime of severe repercussions, stating, “With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared for itself a bitter and painful fate, which it will surely face.”
